Paris is the capital and the most densely inhabited city of France. It has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population in 2013 of 2,229,621 surrounded by the city limits. Paris was the main city in the western world, a successful trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe.

Paris is the home of important museums and cultural institutions, comprising the most visited art museum in the world, the “Louvre”. In 2015 Paris received 22.2 million visitors, making it one of the world's best tourist destinations

The city is also a major rail, freeway, and air-transport hub, aided by the two international airports Paris-Charles de Gaulle (the second fullest airport in Europe after London Heat throw Airport with 63,8 million passengers in 2014) and Paris-Orly.

Paris needs no introduction. It’s tantamount with food, culture, fashion, and architecture, rarely unacceptable to those who visit. Despite being the dream target for millions of people each year, the French capital still has sufficiently hidden surprises to offer beyond the  Eiffel Tower
and its world-class museums. For centuries, Paris has engrossed artists from around the world, who reach in the city to educate themselves and to pursue inspiration from its vast pool of artistic properties and galleries. As a result, Paris has developed a reputation as the "City of Art". Paris is the home of great museums and cultural organizations and to truly appreciate Paris you have to immerse yourself in the city’s artistic nation.

Paris is often mentioned to as "The City of Light” both because of its leading role during the Age of Enlightenment, and more literally because Paris was one of the first European cities to accept gas street illumination.
